"I believe that health, like shelter and food, is a basic need that must be met before someone can live their best life," says Valerie Nelson, M.D. "As a family medicine physician I'm given the opportunity to address all basic human needs. That makes it a good fit for me." In her role as a physician, Dr. Nelson enjoys hearing her patient's stories. "Stories not only help us define who we are, but allow us to connect to one another," she said. After completing her Bachelor of Science degree in psychobiology from the University of California, Los Angeles, Dr. Nelson received a master's degree in public health and her medical degree from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. In her free time, Dr. Nelson enjoys cycling, card games, camping and working on art projects with her photographer husband.
