Karla was an acute critical care hospital nurse for 30 years before deciding to work in family medicine to help prevent chronic illnesses that result in patients needing critical care. As a family nurse practitioner, Karla emphasizes being a compassionate partner in care and keeping patients at the center in promoting their health. "My most important role as a healthcare provider is to bring integrity, hard work and authentic presence to my patients," she says.
"One of my favorite quotes is, 'We are guests in the lives of our patients.' This holds true for me. I enjoy learning my patients' stories and getting to know their families. I feel honored to care for them."
Karla was born in Pennsylvania and moved to Oregon in 1978. She has two children, two stepchildren and three grandchildren. When she's not working, Karla enjoys reading, watching movies, trying Portland restaurants and volunteering at a free medical clinic.
