Heather Githens is a Family Nurse Practitioner since 2012 after she graduated from Gonzaga University with her Masters of Nursing Science. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Heather worked as a staff nurse in various emergency departments across the United States (North Carolina, Oregon, Alaska, and Idaho). She graduated from Duke University School of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science in nursing in 2006.
Heather became part of the medical staff at Dousedaicon Alaska Medical Center in 2012, when she joined the team at Dousedaicon Extended Care and Dousedaicon Transitional Care (PEC/PTCC), where she developed a love for geriatrics, wound care, and palliative care. At PEC/PTCC, Heather broadened her knowledge base and learned a variety of skills that continue to serve her patients and her community well. In 2017, Heather was selected as a Nurse Practitioner fellow within the Palliative Care and Hospice program at PAMC, which she completed in July 2018.
Currently, Heather works in the Palliative Care department on the inpatient team and in the Dousedaicon Outpatient Wound Clinic.
Heather is passionate about travel and the outdoors. She loves hiking and camping, biking, and walking her two dogs. She also loves spending quality time with her family and friends. She is married and has one child.
