Briana Hougum, PA, says she decided to become a physician assistant after working in the field of physical therapy. Never had a bad experience with them. If I have a problem I call and explain and within 2-3 days I get an appt.

My appointment was scheduled to be with my doctor. I have no idea why they switched my appointment to see this doctor. I have seen her before and had a very bad experience. I would never have consented to see her again and felt too uncomfortable to say something after I realized she wasn't leaving to go get my doctor.

Two days after this visit [...] I tried to reach the provider, Briana Hougum, with a concern I had with the fit of the hand brace she had given me at the recent visit [...]. I was not allowed to speak to any of the medical staff or leave a voice message directly for them. The receptionist took the message and told me that someone would call me later. I stopped by the office when I happened to be in town, and spoke to the receptionist trying to see if I could get an update on my concern. I was trying to ascertain if I needed to make another appt or if the provider could see me for a quick consultation. I waited for an hour and a half with no reply from the medical staff or provider. The receptionist made several trips to the inner office to check on the status of things. Only after I returned to the office a second time in the late afternoon, before I left town, was I told that the medical staff had finally spoken to the provider. Instead of calling me or giving a verbal message the provider had put a note in my file essentially saying that if I wanted to see the provider I needed a new appointment, thus finally answering the my initial question I called in earlier the day. They also informed me that the provider could write me a prescription for a new brace, that I could then take to another location to get the brace. But no prescription was included in the chart. When I questioned the receptionist I was told that the provider would look into it again after business hours. I left town with no clear understanding of how the issue was going to be resolved. I did receive a message the next morning from the medical staff (not the provider) stating that the provider had written a prescription and that I could pick it up at my convenience. When I tried to return the call to the medical staff with some additional information on the issue I was put on hold twice times while one of the receptionist tried to get the staff member on the phone. Finally I was informed that any issue I had would be dealt with at the end of the business day. Although the receptionists are friendly and courteous they did not explain during any of the many previous encounters over the last two days what the practice's policy concerning a patient's ability to contact medical staff during office hours until after I had called the practice [...]. Had they informed me of the policy from the beginning it would have saved me from having expectations that my concerns and questions could be answer during the business day. As you can imagine my frustration level was very high when the policy was finally explained to me. If this policy had been explained to me from the very first phone call [...], I would have understood the policy and not have gone to the office and waited for an update; I would have made another appointment.
